1. A prime number <\/strong>is a whole number greater than 1 that has exactly two different<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

   factors, 1 and itself.<\/p>\n

   E.g. 5 = 1 x 5<\/p>\n

   Since 5 has no other whole number factors other than 1 and itself, it is a prime number.<\/p>\n

   1. The numbers 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, … are prime numbers.<\/li>\n
   2. A composite number <\/strong>is a whole number greater than 1 that has more than 2 different<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n E.g. 6 = 1 x 6<\/p>\n 6 = 2 x 3<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

      \n 4 factors<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n  <\/p>\n 6 is a composite number.<\/p>\n \n The numbers 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, … are composite numbers. In other words,<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n all whole numbers greater than 1 that are not prime numbers are composite numbers.<\/p>\n \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a05.\u00a0Prime factors <\/strong>are factors of a number that are also prime.<\/p>\n E.g. The factors of 18 are 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 and 18. The prime factors of 18 are 2 and 3.<\/p>\n \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a06. The process of expressing a composite number as the product of prime factors is called prime factorisation.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a07.
