Physics Tuition Singapore Secondary Science Tuition – Electricity Heating Effect
Heating effect
- The conversion of energy in the heating effect of electric current: Electrical energy —> Heat energy
- The resistance of an electrical conductor causes the conversion of electrical energy into heat energy when electric current flows through it.
- The greater the resistance of the electrical conductor, the greater the amount of heat energy
- Different electrical conductors have different degrees of resistance.
For example
Nichrome has a higher resistance than copper.
Therefore, nichrome is used as the heating element in a kettle. Copper
- Certain electrical conductors such as tungsten give out heat and light
