Physics Tuition Singapore – Energy,Work and Power Exam Tips
Exam Tip 1
To find the total pressure exerted at a certain depth of a lake, remember to always add atmospheric pressure to the pressure due to water.
Exam Tip 2
Although technically you can use many types of liquid in the barometer, use mercury as it has the highest density among liquids at room temperature. Normal atmospheric pressure causes the mercury level to rise to only 76 cm. If you use other liquids, the liquid level will be much higher. For example, you need a 10 metre high tube if you use water. Imagine the trouble you will have in handling this barometer!
