Terrorism and aftermath of the Paris Attacks
The world reeled in shock and horror as the Paris Attacks hit the headlines. Social media hit a frenzy as Netizens tried to find out as much as they could about the perpetuators of the attacks and their motives. It was only in January this year when we read about the Charlie Hebdo attacks and the unfolding of events in Paris now just seems so surreal.
Why did they target innocent victims? Is ISIS really that influential in perpetuating these attacks or are they merely claiming credit for every terrorist activity so that they would appear more powerful? How should France respond? How should we respond? Why is our world becoming more turbulent and rife with unrest and violence? These are some of the hardest questions which we will have to figure out.
Closer back to home in Singapore, PM Lee warned us to be mentally prepared with terrorist attacks in Singapore if it happens. No country is 100% immune to terror attacks. It is somewhat disturbing and the thought of an attack in any public area in Singapore outrightly sends a cold, sharp chill to my spine. We can only pre-empt these attacks through heightening security, conducting mock-up scenarios and capitalising on whatever intelligence measures we have to thwart these attacks. I hope for peace, which is often taken for granted, as we see how volatile our world is now.
